Design Works Engineering's Comox office delivers integrated structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering for clients building across the Comox Valley and central Vancouver Island. We're licensed with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), fluent in the BC Building Code and the Town of Comox's permitting process, and embedded in the local construction community — so your project is engineered by people who know the ground it sits on.

From early concept through occupancy, our Comox team integrates every discipline your project needs — coordinated under one roof, signed and sealed by BC-licensed engineers.

Structural Engineering

From single-family infill to wood-frame mid-rise and small commercial, our structural team designs efficient, code-compliant frames for the Comox Valley's full range of building types. We work directly with architects and contractors from massing through shop drawings, sealed under EGBC.

Mechanical Engineering

HVAC, plumbing, and process system design tuned to the West Coast climate and the BC Energy Step Code. Our Comox mechanical engineers size heating, ventilation, and domestic water systems for wet shoulder seasons, mild winters, and the energy-code requirements that come with them.

Electrical Engineering

Power distribution, life safety, and low-voltage systems for commercial, multi-family, and institutional projects across the Comox Valley. CEC- and BC-amendment-fluent.

Civil Engineering

Site grading, servicing, stormwater management, and onsite utility design for Comox Valley developments. We coordinate with Town of Comox and Comox Valley Regional District servicing standards and BC Hydro / FortisBC utility requirements so site approvals don't stall the project.

Energy Modelling

BC Energy Step Code and NECB-compliant whole-building energy modelling handled in-house. We use industry-standard tools to demonstrate code compliance, optimize envelope performance, and support LEED and Step Code submittals for Comox Valley projects.

Building Assessment Reports

Reserve fund studies, due-diligence inspections, and condition assessments for Comox Valley buildings. Backed by our purpose-built BAR platform for consistent, defensible reporting that lenders, insurers, and strata councils accept.

Fire Protection

Sprinkler, standpipe, and special-hazard system design coordinated with our mechanical drawings. We engage Comox Fire Rescue early to keep code interpretations clean and inspections on schedule.

Lighting Design

Architectural and exterior lighting that meets ASHRAE 90.1 and NECB power-density limits while supporting the architect's intent. Photometrics, control sequences, and emergency lighting coordinated directly with the electrical set.

Sustainable Design

LEED, BC Energy Step Code, BOMA BEST, and Zero Carbon Building strategy integrated from concept. Our sustainability advisors help Comox Valley owners hit certification targets without expensive late-stage redesigns.

Modular Design

Engineering for off-site and modular construction. We coordinate structural connections, MEP rough-ins, and transport loading so modules arrive ready to set on the Comox site without surprises — including barge-delivery for projects up the coast.

From rezoning and subdivision support through detailed servicing design — our land development team navigates Town of Comox and Comox Valley Regional District planning, environmental, and engineering review so your site moves through the approvals queue.

Construction-phase site inspections, field reviews, and commissioning observations. Our Comox-based engineers and technologists are on site through key milestones — not just at substantial performance.
