Nzen’man’ (Birds Nest) Child & Family Development Centre
Project Description
The Nzen’man’ (Birds Nest) Centre is the first community building to begin construction in Lytton, BC since the 2021 wildfire, marking a powerful step in the region’s recovery. Designed to Canada Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon standards, the project features rammed earth walls, geothermal systems, reclaimed wildfire timber, and spaces shaped through community storytelling and visioning. The facility will include 66 licensed child care spaces, a Family Resource Centre, a cultural gathering room, an Indigenous library, and intergenerational social areas. Design Works Engineering is contributing hydraulic calculations and fire sprinkler layouts for building permit as part of this meaningful, community-led redevelopment.
