Jun C. Dunque Jr.
,
STRUCTURAL DESIGNER

Thirty-eight years of structural engineering practice sit behind Zoilo Dunque Jr.'s current role as Quality Assurance Manager for Structural Projects at Design Works Engineering. His career has crossed six countries and five decades, covering pre-cast concrete, structural steel, wood-framed, masonry, and reinforced concrete systems for commercial, residential, modular, industrial, and civil infrastructure projects in the Philippines, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Canada.

He began with the Aboitiz Construction Group in Cebu, where he worked across power plants, industrial facilities, and housing projects. From there, his career moved internationally: structural detailing on rail and urban infrastructure with Maunsell Consultants Asia in Hong Kong, including the KCRC Yard Extension project; structural steel drafting and detailing for pre-engineered structures, industrial plants, and high-rise buildings with Emirates Building System in Dubai; and then a five-year stretch with B.W. Hudson Engineers in Grand Prairie, Texas, producing structural calculations and drawings for wood-framed hotels and churches across the US South, including Holiday Inn projects in Waxahachie and South Padre Island.

He moved to Las Vegas in 2005, working with Engineering System Solutions and then Denali LLC on retail, industrial tilt-up, and commercial buildings across Nevada, developing deep fluency in US code-based design for wood, concrete, and steel systems. He returned to the Philippines in 2006 and joined Cebu Structural Design Solutions as Principal Structural Engineer, leading lateral and gravity analysis on modular housing projects across British Columbia and Ontario for Design Works, alongside residential and commercial work for California engineering firms.

He joined Design Works Engineering directly in 2016, taking on structural supervision and modular project management before moving into his current role as Quality Assurance Manager for Structural Projects. In that capacity, he reviews structural design and analysis across the team, establishes standard connection details for modular systems to ensure load paths are properly addressed, and coordinates with engineers and consultants to maintain design precision and consistency. He also develops custom structural calculation tools in Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic, building internal resources that the team relies on across project types.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Cebu Institute of Technology (1987) and is a Registered Civil Engineer with the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission. He is a member of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers.
