Project Update: Comfort Inn and Suites Penticton

A Penticton landmark is getting a new chapter.

At 950 Westminster Ave, Penticton, a well-known local landmark is getting a new chapter. What began as the Skiers Motel Hotel in the 1960s — a bold and modern form in its day — is now being transformed by our client, Gill Hotels, into the Comfort Inn and Suites Penticton.

Our team at Design Works Engineering is proud to provide structural, mechanical, electrical, energy modelling, and fire protection services for this ambitious expansion. In partnership with Gill Hotels, Bluegreen Architecture Inc., and Ikleen Construction, the project adds a 6-storey addition and expands the footprint from 36 to 88 rooms.

During our latest inspection, led by our Director of Electrical Design Emmanuel Mendiola, we observed:

• Rough-in wirings advancing across all floors

• In-suite panel installations underway

• Device and lighting rough-in boxes steadily progressing

Beyond the building itself, this addition fits into Penticton’s North Gateway Redevelopment and Investment Strategy — boosting local economic activity with high-quality rooms and amenities. As Bluegreen Architecture put it, the goal is nothing less than “rejuvenating a unique city landmark” and carrying it into the future.

This is more than an expansion — it’s about elevating comfort, hospitality, and a sense of place in the Okanagan.
