Celebrating Five Years With Design Works: Mark Vicuna

Since joining the team in 2020, Mark has been a steady and trusted presence.

This month, we’re celebrating a special milestone — Mark Vicuna’s five-year anniversary with Design Works Engineering. Since joining the team in 2020, Mark has been a steady and trusted presence, serving as Executive Assistant to our President & CEO, Haydar Al Dahhan.

𝗔 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Mark joined Design Works looking for a change in his career. With diverse work experience both in Canada and abroad, he wanted to shift to a role closer to his background in management. “Joining Design Works gave me that chance, and it’s been a good decision ever since,” he shared.


𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀

Starting his journey in the middle of the pandemic meant navigating remote work from day one. But Mark credits the strong support of leadership — especially Haydar — and mentorship from senior engineers as key to his growth. Learning the complexities involved in multidisciplinary proposals  was no easy feat, but today it’s one of his favorite parts of the role. “Now, it’s something I really enjoy — especially when a project gets awarded and you see all the effort pay off,” Mark said.

𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆

In his role as Executive Assistant, Mark is often the connective thread that keeps things moving. Whether supporting engineers, assisting colleagues, or ensuring Haydar and the leadership team have what they need, he takes pride in being a dependable resource. “What makes me feel proud is knowing that the things I do, big or small, make a difference not just for the team but for the company as a whole.”

𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸

Outside the office, Mark enjoys simple but fulfilling pastimes. Summer finds him in the backyard tending to plants and vegetables, or out camping with family and friends.  When he’s at home, he’s often in the garage, fixing things or tackling small projects.

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱

As he looks to the future, Mark is focused on growth — both personal and professional. “The future will always bring new challenges and opportunities, and I’m excited to keep contributing to the success of the company. Most of all, I want to keep improving myself and be part of the company’s growth in the years to come.”
