As President, Chief Executive Officer, and co-founder of Design Works Engineering, Haydar Al Dahhan has taken a small firm in Northern Alberta from an ambitious, two-person operation to a multi-national engineering powerhouse in just six years. Staffed by more than 70 experts in an array of fields, Haydar has been instrumental in the development of the integrated, holistic, human-centric teams that have become a hallmark of the firm’s success.
Born in England and raised in several major international cities, Haydar came to Canada in 2001 to continue his education, ultimately landing in Grande Prairie and founding Design Works Engineering. It was an ideal location to build a foundation for his business while observing the ebb and flow of construction needs in nearby Edmonton, eventually moving to the big city in 2017. A short time later, Haydar joined the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce for a three-year term as a board member and contributor to the policy committee, where he learned just how vital an active chamber is for the wellbeing and economic growth of the community and its businesses.
As of 2020, Haydar has completed his first year of his term with the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, as well as a three-year tenure as a director with the Grande Prairie Construction Association. Working in close collaboration with specialists and influencers both on the board and in the community, he has helped boost awareness and development through a successful array of events and services.
Haydar exemplifies the attributes of an authentic leader: consideration, motivation, commitment, drive, and passion for what he does for his business, his buildings, and the people who live and work in them. He is committed to engaging and collaborating with stakeholders from all walks of life in order to realize success on each and every project he undertakes.
While not at the office, Haydar enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing sports, and taking in all the culture, events, and experiences that his community has to offer.
